Co Housing Development
Working with CTD Architects, awSCAPE was commissioned by Leek Cohousing Ltd to prepare a landscape led approach to the proposed redevelopment of a former army base to create a self build eco and Cohousing development currently in planning. Situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park, and incorporating the findings of the Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment the development is sensitively designed to minimise impact on the National Park. Existing buildings are used for communal facilities and dwellings, and new low-rise dwellings have been identified in areas that will minimise their visual impact and maximise use of existing infrastructure on site. Native species are utilised for most of the site to maximise biodiversity, and blend the site into the landscape with non-native species providing an edible and wildlife rich resource. The site has been designed to bring to life a brownfield site for a community who will use the land sustainably, provide a level of self-sufficiency, whilst maximising wildlife potential and minimise impact on the wider landscape, blending it into the surrounding countryside.
